York, PA’s Shane Speal is the world’s foremost master of the cigar box guitar, a primitive stringed instrument cobbled together from discarded wood, guitar strings and and empty box.   Shane is responsible for the modern resurgence of the cigar box guitar, a once forgotten instrument of American blues and roots music.  He has been featured in the LA Times, Guitar World and Premier Guitar magazines and his concert has been featured in the PBS documentary, Songs Inside the Box.

Evan Pugh Vanilla Porter Official Release

College Professor, first President of Penn State, curator of an entirely Epic Beard.  You guessed it! We’re talking about Oxford’s own Evan Pugh!
We celebrate our tenuous connection to fame with Evan Pugh Vanilla Porter. Rich and fragrant due to a generous addition of Madagascar Vanilla.  The malty, nutty sweetness of this porter is beautifully balanced against dark, heavily roasted barley and a gentle touch of Old World English and German hops.
Strap on your chin strap (beard that is), and knock back a few EPVPs in honor of Oxford’s “Original Hipster”.  At just 5% ABV, you don’t have to worry about getting a little too fuzzy while you get your history on.
Bitterness (IBUs): 21
Color (SRM): 24
Est. Alcohol (ABV):5.0

NEW 529 IPA Release Party!

“This is the big one, Elizabeth!”  – Fred Sanford

Come join us on Saturday, September 24th at Bog Turtle Brewery (14 s. 3rd Street, Suite 1, Oxford PA 19363) from 11 am to 3 pm for the release of our newest beer: 529 IPA

We packed our mash tun to the tippy -top to make this beautiful IPA. There is 50% more grain in each batch than we put in our Devils’s 9Ball Pale Ale!  And hops?!? Twice as many hop additions (Magnum, Amarillo and Simcoe) starting earlier in the boil.  And yes, we then dry hop it in the fermenters! MORE HOPS!!

What do you get from all of this wizardry?  A magnificent IPA with a beautiful hop nose and just the right amount of hop zing to let you know you are drinking a true BIG IPA.

So, we have said its big. How big is it? Our 529 IPA rings in at 7.5% ABV!

This is the BIGGEST beer we have made to date and we broke the bank to make it. And by bank, we mean we raided our kids college funds.  You see, in Pennsylvania you can put money aside for your children’s educations and any interest earned on the account is tax free! (http://www.pa529.com/) Most of our kids are still young enough that they won’t miss the money for a while but we felt we needed the money now to make this beauty.  To be honest, we couldn’t wait to make it either.

There will be food from Elk Mt. BBQ; craft sales and artisans at Pickled Pickles and don’t forget the Oxford Apple Festival across the lot at Oxford Memorial Park!  Finish the evening up by heading over to the SHS Oktoberfest http://www.shsoktoberfest.com/ and try some great home-brews at the Homebrew contest sponsored by Bog Turtle Brewery!

Cruise Over To BTB This Friday Night!

Join us this Friday night, September 2nd, as we participate in Oxford’s First Friday Event: The Car Show!  This is the big one; hundreds of classic and custom cars, food trucks, product vendors and Bog Turtle Brewery Beer!

We will have our Rochambeau Rouge Red Ale, Cattail Honey Brown Ale, Two Stories Blonde Ale and our Devils  9Ball Pale Ale for your drinking pleasure.

We will be selling beer by the glass (12 oz. pours) for $3 on the parking lot side of our building from 4-8 pm on Friday night September 2,2016.

Stop by, take a rest and have a beer or two during your evening.  We hope to see all of you at some point on Friday night!

As usual, growler sales and fills will be available during the event.
